Joe Smoke from New Orleans,La , along with Rankstar and Tigga from Philadelphia, PA, came together in 2006 to form what has been one of the most formidable trios hip-hop has ever seen. However, when the group originally came together, it took a very long time for them to decide on a name. Joe Smoke recalls, "It was a long process. We knew who we were talent-wise but we couldn't create the words to describe us name-wise." The name "Common Ground" was originally created through a text message. "Tigga sent me a text, and I don't remember the exact phrase but I remember the words, Common Ground, being in the text. They just jumped out of the phone at me and I immediately texted Tigga and Rankstar and was like, this is it!", said Joe Smoke.
We were all way too different, but music was our bond. Over time the group began to gel into a powerful cohesive unit. But more importantly a brotherhood was formed. The three emcees look out for each other constantly as if they were "blood brothers". Although they have their differences at times. Friendship remains the ultimate priority. Secondly, remaining a team and a solid group is also just as important].
